Housing Counseling

Homeless Services

Some of the clients we service are homeless and in addition to providing rental counseling services and assistance accessing subsidized housing like section-8, public housing and HUD assisted housing families often need referral to Bridge housing, transitional living facilities and homeless shelters.  Our target population includes special needs groups who are generally renters comprised of the frail, elderly, disabled, HIV positive, persons with AID, mental health clients, those in recovery from chemical dependency, homeless persons and those for whom English is not their first language. FHP is adept at making coordinated and successful referrals and is knowledgeable of the network of social service providers.  We have over fifty Satellite Partner agencies that up-date us regarding their service provision areas and participate in our ongoing training opportunities.

The housing search and follow-up process are more involved for our homeless families and in turn require more staff time and resources.  Often assistance is needed in completing applications, transportation to view units along with many other supportive services.  FHP staff has had much success in assisting homeless families stabilize their living situation and we take part in several county wide collaboratives for the purpose of coordinating housing opportunities and homelessness-prevention as listed in Allegheny County’s current Consolidated Plan Strategic Priorities.
